TRACKING SHOTS USED IN MUSIC VIDEO

Tracking shots can be used in music videos to follow the subject in the video. The camera will film the subject while they are moving and the camera will then go backwards while the subject is going forward. The tracking shot can be created using different equipment for example big productions might use a steadycam which the camera operator can wear  and the camera attaches to it and this counter balances the camera giving a very smooth shot. This can also be created using a smartphone camera using a gamble which is like a mini handheld version of a steadycam.

Some Tracking shots will only have one shot but by doing this anything that goes wrong will have to be reshot as there is no cuts. Other videos will use cuts and by doing this it means that is things go wrong in the video the whole video will not have to be shot again.

Examples of Music videos that do this

The Verve - "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and Childish Gambino -  "This is America"both of these music videos use tracking shots in bittersweet symphony the tracking shot is following the subject along the street this video also has cutaways to different angles . In this is America the camera is also following someone but inside and around different areas of a  building.
